One weekend, two top-tier world sports events.
That was South Africa this weekend, with the first LIV Golf tournament on African soil at Steyn City, and the Cape Epic, the world’s top mountain biking stage race, thrilling sports fans around the globe.
Well done to Bryson DeChambeau on winning his playoff against John Rahm. You guys laid on a great showdown.
Well done also to our South African Southern Guards GC on coming in one shot behind the US Crushers GC.
Making Cape Epic history, Matthew Beers and Tristan Nortje made us proud as they became the first all-South African team to ride to victory in this gruelling showcase of mountain biking in some of the most beautiful places in the world.
We’re equally proud that the elite women’s crown went to our own Candide Lill and Swiss teammate Alessandra Keller.
On a different continent, our Springbok Women's Sevens qualified for the HSBC SVNS World Championship by finishing in second place at the HSBC SVNS 2 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Let’s hope the women’s team emulates our Blitzboks who beat Fiji in New York to clinch the overall HSBC SVNS Series title.
We’re a nation of champion event organisers and champion athletes.
What a combination!
