AI assisted coding can absolutely be a forcing function for 10x productivity. It lets people move way faster and skip a lot of the boring friction. But today’s models still make mistakes. They can be confidently wrong. They can be fooled. And they can easily generate code the person pushing it doesn’t actually understand. That’s where this gets dangerous. If you’re shipping critical systems, especially at scale, you need to understand the code you’re pushing. Financial services is the obvious example. Would you want AI slop pushed into something that holds your entire net worth? I wouldn’t. This will change as models get better. They’re improving fast. But right now we should proceed with caution. Human in the loop doesn’t have to slow things down. AI can still make teams dramatically faster for writing, reviewing, and iterating. But for production systems that matter, it should take at least two humans to do a bad thing at scale. Very different story for a side project or proof of concept fwiw.
